We continue through Matthew’s account of events leading to the crucifixion of Christ. We left off with a lynch mob arresting Christ around midnight at the kiss of Judas. Peter woke up grouchy and cut ff an official’s ear. He was serious about his vow to defend Christ. But we’ll see his good works aren’t enough.
Our best efforts never justify us. Only the efforts of Christ justify us on judgment day.
His grace is enough. It doesn’t remove our motivation to do good works, it frees us to do our best. Every true Christian will want to do good. But, again, our efforts never justify us, Christ will justify us on the cross with His sinless life in a matter of hours in the timeline of events.
