Can it be that we need to hear it again? Paul thinks so. He devotes the entire chapter to the righteousness from faith. Paul is very concerned the Jews will not take this seriously. Faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob differs from every religion in the world because all religions are man made. Confucius is a man, Mohammed a man, Buddha a man, Joseph Smith a man. Paul is speaking of putting our faith in God. He has provided a lamb, all that is needed for life and godliness, the Bible says. We trust not in the works of the flesh but in the righteousness from faith in Jesus Christ who purchased our redemption by His blood. He satisfied God’s wrath against sin.
The object of Abraham’s faith was Jesus Christ, son of David who came from the nation God promised him. When all seemed lost he trusted and did not waiver, even though He was 100 years old and His wife 90. Sarah and others laughed yet he persevered. His belief, was credited to Him as righteousness. Your belief in Christ credits you too.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)
