We come to the famous 7th chapter of the Book of Romans, coming out of chapter 6, Paul’s introduction to the doctrine of sanctification. Therefore, we keep in mind, this doctrine of sanctification as we consider Paul’s teaching today. Paul uses marriage as a metaphor to help us understand that we are no longer bound to the law. When a spouse dies in a marriage, the other spouse is free to marry another. Since we died to the law we are now free to be united with Christ and resurrected to an new way of life, to be led by the Spirit into holiness. We couldn’t obey the law enough to be saved, now we’re saved and given the ability of the Spirits power to be obedient to the law. We are His bride and He washes us to be pure and spotless, by His Spirit and His Word.
Praise His name forever,
