Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Today, Paul teaches us by his own changed thinking, in real time, in our text, how to deal with discouragement.

2 Corinthians 2:12-17 can be divided into two sections:

  1. In Verses 12 & 13 we have “Paul’s troubled soul”
  2. In Verses 14-17 we have “the solution to his troubled soul”

We learn like Paul, that we need to:

1. Be thankful: to count our blessings

2. Take the long view: because we win, eternal life awaits us.

3. Spread the Gospel: do our jobs as Christians, to preach the Gospel.

By God’s Grace

Pastoral Greeting

Greetings Brothers & Sisters,

This morning we will study 2 Cor. 2:5-11 where Paul reveals a familiar pattern in the life of the Christian being Sanctified unto holiness. When we believe in the work of Christ on the cross, we are immediately justified before God, assured of our salvation if we were to die today. But as long as we live on this side of eternity we sin. If our faith is genuine, we will show the fruit of sanctification (being perfected overtime). The pattern we see as God’s children is this:

The pattern we see as God's children is this:

1. Blatant Sin
2. Punishment
3. Repentance
4. Forgiveness
5. Obedience

By God's grace, let us stay in that sweet spot, the green pastures of obedience, grazing, chewing, meditating upon the bread of life that sustains us in our journey to heaven.

Until We've Arrived,
Pastor John

Pastoral Greeting

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Today we examine the whole Corinthian situation and come away with the understanding that as firm as he was in 1 Cor. and as emotional as he was in 2 Cor., Paul was motivated by a fierce love for the church. His fierce Love For the church Forms, Fights, Forebears and Forgives.

Let us be re-formed and con-formed to the image of Christ through Scripture that our families and workplaces can reflect the image of Christ, let fight for the souls in our charge, let us patiently show forebearance in their failures, let us eagerly forgive when they repent.

May God bless our study of His most precious Word.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

In today’s message we’re reminded that God never changes, His Word never changes. Since He is reliable, we therefore trust that the words of His called apostles are reliable and by God’s grace, we trust that the unchangeable Christ will be among us through the preaching of His Word, that where two or more are gathered together, He will be among us to superintend our meeting here today and feed us the reliable truth of His Word.

Let our faith be unshakeable.

 -Pastor John

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Today we ask a profound question. We do not ask, why do bad things happen to good people, because there are no good people, only sinners. Rather, we ask why do bad things happen to God’s People?

God is our heavenly Father, and Hebrews tells us He disciplines a son He loves. So we know what we deserve and we can never say we don’t deserve the trials we face in life. Yet we’re still left with the question: Why would our Loving and merciful Father allow bad things to happen to us?  In todays text we find some helpful and edifying answers.

Why do bad things happen to God’s People?

1.   Reassurance of the love of our brethren

2.   Helps in finding God’s comfort

3.   Comfort others

4.   Makes us not rely on ourselves

5.   Shares in Christs Sufferings

6.   Teaches us God always delivers

7.   Test of our faith; reveals faith.

comfort you today in the knowledge that in all of our suffering He is doing good until one day, there will be no more sorrow and no more tears!

In the background of today’s text is a Corinthian church that disrespected Paul. This forces him to have to defend his apostleship, because false apostles, “angels of light,” in chapter 11, were claiming authority over the church. They claimed Paul’s suffering proves he’s not an apostle, God must be punishing him for his sin.

Today’s text offers great comfort for all who believe. Paul is comforted by the embodiment of all comfort, the Father who sent Christ crucified, to teach him to face terrorism. His suffering is an example to the church, to take up their cross too and follow Christ. Today’s message teaches us that our sufferings are an opportunity for us to be an example, a comfort, a help to our brothers & sisters who will inevitably face affliction.

Take courage my brothers & sisters in your affliction, the God of all comfort will offset your pain with His comfort. When trouble comes, I hope you will be found: “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Pet 5:7)

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

Today we set sail on our journey through 2nd Corinthians, the inspired Word of God. There were 4 letters we know of, sent from Paul to the church at Corinth. One referred to as the “previous letter” then 1 Corinthians, inspired by the Holy Spirit, then the “severe letter”, then finally, 2 Corinthians.

1 Corinthians was a letter of correction, 2 Corinthians is an emotional letter of biography. In This letter we see the soul of our beloved apostle, a dramatic epistle indeed.

As we come to the end of our study of 1 Cor. 16, we remember Paul’s talking about being steadfast & immovable, abounding in the work of the Lord. (ch15:58) in verses 1-4, Paul shows us the work of the Lord is to fund churches that gather on Sunday, the 1st day of the week. True disciples want to give time as well as money and so reveal their true worship.

In verses 5-11, we see our work is to Evangelize & Disciple.  This week, in verses 12-24, we see that doing the work of the Lord is 2 more things. It’s Growing & Loving! We see 10 ways to grow & be devoted to one another in brotherly love and so grow up as a church.

Be taught, be rebuked, be corrected, be trained, in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16) and so be encouraged today by God’s Word.

For God’s Glory.

10 Ways To Grow & Love

  1. Be Under the Preaching of the Gospel
  2. Be Watchful
  3. Be Firm in the Faith
  4. Be Manly (be your gender)
  5. Be Strong
  6. Be Loving
  7. Be Submissive to Leaders
  8. Be Refreshing
  9. Be Grateful
  10. Be Hospitable

Why would you want to come to church to work? You work all week and now you have to work more? “Why can’t I just come to relax and hear good things and be motivated in my life to be a better person?”

The Christian understands he’s a sinner saved by grace and because of God’s kindness we turn from our selfish ways and begin in the effort to save others who do not know Christ, we want to “be so heavenly minded that we’re actually of some earthly good,” “abounding in the work of the Lord.”(1 Cor.15:58)

Today, Paul who says, “follow me as I follow Christ,” exhibits his own work ethic in the Lord. Let us follow his example and “stir up one another to love and good works” (Heb 10:24) and so glorify the Lord!
